EUGENE, Ore. – First-year head coach Paul Westhead promised a high-octane brand of basketball when he came to Oregon, and that’s what fans got as the Ducks outscored Southern Oregon 109-47 on Tuesday night at McArthur Court in the exhibition opener.

Four starters reached double figures, and all 12 players available scored for the Ducks, led by senior guard Micaela Cocks’ 22-point effort on 9-of-18 shooting.  

Sophomore Jasmin Holliday contributed a double-double with 16 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and a game-high tying five assists, while sophomore Amanda Johnson added 19 points, seven rebounds and a game-high tying five assists.

Playing in her first game since a 66-64 victory over Washington on Jan. 18, 2008, sophomore Nia Jackson scored 15 points and dished out three assists.

In addition to the four starters reaching double figures, that foursome also shot .500 or better apiece from the floor respectively, as Oregon shot 46.9 percent (46-of-98) as a team for the game..

Oregon hit the triple-digit plateau without senior guard Taylor Lilley, who is currently listed as day-to-day with a right ankle sprain.

The Ducks fastbreak offense and full-court pressure defense allowed them to break out to a 21-2 lead with 15:02 to go in the first half.

The fast-paced game led to a combined 69 turnovers, with Southern Oregon committing 45, and the Ducks mishandling the ball 24 times.

Oregon also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Raiders 62-39, and getting extra possessions on the offensive end with 27 offensive rebounds.

Southern Oregon was led by Krystal Smith’s 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jacki Speer added 10 points and eight rebounds as well.

Tired legs on Oregon’s end led to a paltry performance at the free-throw line as the Ducks shot just 54.5 percent (12-of-22).

Nicole Canepa and Lindsey Saffold added eight points apiece for the Ducks, while newcomers Kristi Fallin, Candyce Flynn and Laura Stanulis each played in an Oregon uniform for the first time in their respective collegiate careers.

Oregon will play its final exhibition game at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 8 against Western Oregon. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by clicking HERE , calling 1-800-WEB-FOOT or in person at the Casanova Center Ticket office.
