MANHASSET, N.Y. – University of Oregon senior Ed Dickson is one of eight players selected as a semi-finalist for the 2009 John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top collegiate tight end in the country by the Nassau County (N.Y.) Sports Commission.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Bellflower, Calif., standout leads the Ducks in receiving with 37 catches for 488 yards and five touchdowns, ranking 12th in the Pacific-10 Conference in receiving yards (48.8-yard avg.) and tied for 12th in receptions per game (3.7 avg.).
Dickson already has surpassed school career records for most receptions (119) and receiving yards (1,494) by an Oregon tight end.
The remaining seven candidates for the award are Dorin Dickerson (Pittsburgh), Aaron Hernandez (Florida), Anthony McCoy (USC), Tony Moeaki (Iowa), Dennis Pitta (BYU), Kyle Rudolph (Notre Dame) and Cody Slate (Marshall).
Finalists for the award will be announced Monday, Nov. 23, with the recipient to be named on ESPN Dec. 10 as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show.
