ATLANTA, Ga. - The Oregon stunts and gymnastics team scored an 840 and placed third out of 12 teams in the collegiate all-girl division of the Cheersport Nationals on Sunday afternoon at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Louisville placed first with an 867.9 and Maryland took second with an 846.6.

The Ducks beat out (in order of finish) Fairmont State, North Carolina State, Quinnipiac, East Carolina, Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan State, McMaster University and Brock University.

The Cheersport Nationals is a multi-divisional championships featuring only the traditional 2 1/2 minute team routine. Each team competed on both Saturday and Sunday, using the same routine, with their scores from both days totaled to determine the final team score.

A total of five judges score the team out 150 with the highest and lowest scores thrown out. Oregon tallied a 429.4 on the second day using the three middle judge scores and had three points subtracted for one tumbling fall for its 426.4 total. On the first day, Oregon scored a 413.6 overall.

"We had to compete three days in a row, including our new longer meet format on Friday, so I am really proud of how well we did at Cheersport," said head coach Felecia Mulkey. "To have our best day on Sunday shows that we are improving each and every day. We proved this weekend that we already have what it takes to hang with some of the most experienced and talented teams in the nation."

Louisville scored a 437 on the second day, the highest single routine score at the competition. Maryland was the defending Cheersport Nationals collegiate all-girl champion and also won in 2006 and 2007. Louisville won in 2008 and Georgia won in 2005.
