EUGENE, Ore. - A vigorous offensive attack early on put Oregon in the driver’s seat as the Ducks opened their four-game series with Nevada posting a 16-2 victory on Friday night at PK Park.

In front of a crowd of 2,774 – a season high – the Ducks (13-6) tallied 12 runs in the first three innings as Nevada (10-7) starter Tyler Graham (1-3) exited the game in third after surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits in two an 1/3 innings.
Graham’s relief, right-hander Beau Witsoe pitched the final five and 2/3 innings allowing seven runs – three earned – on five hits and six walks while fanning seven.

Oregon’s 16 runs were the most in the modern era, and the highest total for the program since a 16-4 win over Lewis & Clark on May 4, 1976; tying for ninth all-time in program history. The Ducks’ 14 hits were the most for UO since a 12-8 loss to Portland on April 14, 2009.

As Oregon led 12-0 in the seventh, Oregon freshman Jack Marder crushed his second homer of the season – a three run shot - over the wall in left center. Marder finished his day 3-for-5 with eight RBI – a new modern era record. The Calabasas, Calif., native also made the start at first base for the first time this year after seeing time in right field and at second base.

KC Serna was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and his fifth stolen base of the season, while Danny Pulfer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Junior outfielder Marcus Piazzisi was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, while freshman J.J. Altobelli was 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored.

Oregon left-hander Tyler Anderson earned his third consecutive win to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Las Vegas native went five innings deep without giving up a run – extending his scoreless streak to 21 innings, before allowing single spots in the sixth and seventh. Anderson finished his day tossing seven innings and scattering five hits, while issuing just one walk and allowing only two runs. The staff ace struck out four to bring his season total to 36.

Sophomore right-hander Madison Boer pitched the final two innings for the Ducks, facing seven batters and allowing just one hit while walking no one and striking out three.

Leading 6-0 entering the third, the Ducks doubled their lead as the Nevada pitching staff faced the entire lineup. Oregon scored six runs on four hits and one Wolf Pack error. Altobelli connected on a bases-clearing two-run single up the middle to put the Ducks ahead 8-0, while Witsoe walked Piazzisi with bases loaded as the score climbed to 9-0. Marder then laced a bases-clearing three-run double to right center as the Ducks piled 12 runs on the board.

The Ducks broke open the game in the second, scoring four runs on four hits. The bases were loaded after back-to-back singles from Pulfer and Ryan Hambright, while Graham issued a walk to Altobelli. Raulinaitis then dropped a two-run single into left on Graham’s first offering.

A Serna bunt placed just a few feet in front of the plate loaded the bases for the second time in the inning following Raulinaitis’ two-run single, and Piazzisi’s sacrifice fly brought in Altobelli from third. The Ducks final run of the second was scored when Raulinaitis came home on Marder’s groundout RBI as the Ducks went ahead 6-0.

Oregon took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after three consecutive singles from the top of the order in Serna, Piazzisi and Marder.

With Serna at third and Piazzisi on first, Marder’s single plated the Ducks starting shortstop to score the first run of the game. But Marder tried to get an extra base out of his single, and was erased at second, leaving Piazzisi all alone at third. Rodriguez’s RBI groundout brought Piazzisi home as UO took a 2-0 lead.

Nevada’s Shaun Kort was 2-for-3 on the day. The Wolf Pack scored their first run of the game in the sixth when Westley Moss scored from third on the second wild pitch of the inning. In the seventh, Garrett Yrigoyen’s double to right plated Kort for Nevada’s second run.

Oregon will host Nevada in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at noon. The first game will be a nine-inning affair and the second is scheduled for seven innings.
