EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women’s basketball program added to its 2010 recruiting class with the additions of Ashley Buis (Linden, Indiana) and Chynna Miley (Atlanta, Georgia), it was announced today by head coach Paul Westhead.

Buis, a 5-foot-11 guard out of Vincennes University, will enter the program as a junior after playing two seasons of junior college basketball. Miley, a 6-foot-2 post out of Southwest DeKalb High School, will enter the 2010-11 academic year as a true freshman.
At Vincennes, Buis was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association All-American Honorable Mention in 2009 and 2010.

She was named a NJCAA Preseason First Team All-American heading into her sophomore season, and was a State Farm Coaches’ JC/CC All-American Honorable Mention selection in 2010 after averaging 14.0 points per game, and knocking down 69 3-pointers.

“Ashley is a shooting guard with deep range,” Westhead said. “Our offense will allow Ashley to shoot the ball at will, and she should help us replace our senior shooting guards Micaela (Cocks) and Taylor (Lilley). We are extremely happy she chose to join our Oregon program.”

As a freshman in 2009, Buis led the Trailblazers to a seventh place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament as Vincennes finished its year 25-10, and Buis was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team.

Miley helped lead Southwest DeKalb High School to three consecutive Georgia AAAA State Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010. She was also invited to play in both the Atlanta Classic and the DeKalb County All-Star games.

“Chynna is a very agile post who runs the floor well and will be able to play the power forward and center positions for us,” Westhead said. “She will bring athleticism and a defensive presence to our inside game as well as a nice 15-foot jumper. I think Chynna has unlimited potential and will prove to be a great addition to our program.”

In addition to her athletic achievements, Miley is a member of the National Beta Club, and is an honor roll student at Southwest DeKalb while also serving as Student Government Treasurer the past two years.

Buis and Miley join three Oregon signees who committed to the program during the early signing period in November; Ariel Thomas (Sacramento, Calif., McClatchy HS), Deanna Weaver (Santa Clara, Calif, Wilcox HS) and Danielle Love (Everett, Wash., Cascade HS).
