EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon Support Services for Student-Athletes and the women's basketball program hosted a short ceremony to honor sophomore forward Amanda Johnson for her Academic All-American award on Monday at the John E. Jaqua Academic Center.

Johnson was named to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® University Division second team on Feb. 23, becoming the first student-athlete from the Oregon women’s basketball program to earn the honor since Stefanie Kasperski in 1990.

A native of Santa, Rosa, Calif., Johnson has a 3.97 gpa and is a double major in Psychology and Sociology. She is scheduled to graduate following the 2010 summer term, and will begin pursuing a Master’s in Couples and Family Therapy beginning Fall 2010.

In April, she was also named to the 2010 Pac-10 Conference Women’s Basketball All-Academic First Tea, becoming the first UO player to earn the honor since 2005.

Johnson’s name has already been placed in the floorboards of the Academic Hall of Fame inside the Jaqua Center among former Academic All-Americans.

Johnson averaged 12.7 points and a team-leading 8.5 rebounds per game this season for the Ducks, helping lead Oregon to the third round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

On hand to speak was University President Richard Lariviere, Interim Athletic Director Lorraine Davis, women’s basketball head coach Paul Westhead, Associate Director of Support Services for Student-Athletes Jennie Leander and Director of Support Services for Student-Athletes Steve Stolp.
