EUGENE, Ore. — Florence, Ore., native Ben Voogd will transfer to the University of Oregon head coach Ernie Kent announced Monday.

Voogd, a 6-1 guard, played the last two seasons at Louisiana State and was a member of the Tigers’ 2006 Final Four team. He averaged 1.2 points, 1.7 assists and 11.6 minutes per game in 63 career appearances at LSU. He scored a career-best 12 points with six assists against McNeese State on Nov. 29, 2006.

In accordance with NCAA transfer rules, Voogd will redshirt the 2007-08 season and will have two years of eligibility left beginning in 2008-09.

"Ben has been working out with our guys this summer and they told me that he is a really good person and a really good fit for our style of play," said Kent. "He’s the type of player and the type of person that you want on your basketball team.

"The coaches at LSU had nothing but good things to say about Ben," said Kent. "He has played in the Final Four and the SEC and he’s handled himself very well in some very big games."

Voogd was a three-time all-state player at Florence’s Siuslaw High School. He averaged 26.3 points per game as a junior for the Vikings and 18 points, 8.5 assists and 7.3 rebounds as a senior.
