WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior Mikael Myrhed and sophomore Alex Cornelissen received Pac-10 Men’s Tennis All-Academic honors, it was announced Tuesday by the conference.
For the second year in a row, Myrhed was named to the first team with a 3.82 gpa in Business Administration. The only upperclassmen on Oregon’s roster, Myrhed finished the 2008 season with a 7-7 record in singles action, and a 7-3 record in doubles play.
Cornelissen was named honorable mention. The native of Lauwe, Belgium, finished the year with a 12-14 record playing at No. 3 in the lineup for the majority of the year. His 12 singles victories tied for the team lead, and he also finished with a 12-14 record in doubles play.
Earlier this week, sophomore Marcos Verdasco received Pacific-10 Men’s Tennis all-conference honorable mention accolades.
Oregon finished the 2008 season with an 11-14 record. The year included a 5-1 upset of then 63rd-ranked UC Irvine on Feb. 23, as well as disappointing back-to-back, 4-3, losses to No. 27 Washington and No. 59 Denver. Oregon also enjoyed the success of a five-match winning streak that spanned from March 7-24, and included victories over Pacific, Nevada, Portland State, Portland and UC Riverside.
