WALNUT, Calif. Nicole Blood ran the fourth-fastest 5,000 meter race in school history, a personal best 15:43.82, to highlight the 14th-ranked Oregon women’s track and field performances at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday night at Hilmer Lodger Stadium.

It was the fastest 5,000 by an Oregon runner in 20 years. The last Duck to go below 15:43 was Annette Hand with a 15:34.35 in 1988, second all-time. The school record-holder in the 5,000 is Kathy Hayes, who clocked a 15:23.03 in 1985.

Blood’s time was 11th overall in the elite race and third among collegians. Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won in a time of 15:11.88. She beat Lauren Fleshman of Nike by less than a second (15:12.55). The Red Raiders’ Irene Kimaiyo, who came across the line at 15:43.50, just clipped Blood for second among the collegians. The times by Kipyego, Kimaiyo and Blood rank as the top three at the college level this season.

Earlier in the day, Kasey Harwood and Jamesha Youngblood finished first and second in the 400 hurdles to lead Oregon at the 50th annual Mt. SAC Relays at

Harwood, a senior from Polson, Mont., clocked a season-best time of 1:00.06 to win the event, followed closely by Youngblood (1:00.94). It was the first collegiate 400 meter hurdles for Youngblood, a freshman from San Pablo, Calif., whose time is the 10th fastest in school history. Karwood already owns the No. 6 time at Oregon, a PR 59.79 she ran as a sophomore.

In the distance races, Alexandra Kosinski and Zoe Buckman both posted NCAA regional qualifying times.

Buckman, a sophomore from Australia, won the 1,500 meters in a season-best 4:20.57. Kosinski, a freshman from El Dorado Hills, Calif., was eighth in the 800 meters at 2:09.41, a 2008 outdoor best.

Buckman and Kosinski have now qualified for the NCAA West Regional in both the 800 and 1,500 meters.

Sprinters Keisha Baker and Mandy White also ran well. Baker clocked the best 200 meter time by a Duck this season, 24.31. It was a PR for the sophomore from Sacramento, Calif., and good enough for 11th overall in the event won by USC’s Carol Rodriguez (22.84). White clocked an outdoor-best in both the 100 (11.96) and the 200 (24.76).

In the last race of the night, the 10,000 meters, Sarah Pearson and Zoe Nelson both ran NCAA provisional times. Pearson was 11th in 34:29.72, while Nelson was 16th in 34:50.59.
