WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon junior pitcher Madison Boer has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 14-20, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.
Oregon needed a solid pitching performance, and Boer delivered in the Ducks' 4-0 win at Hawai'i on Sunday. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native tossed eight innings of shutout baseball and held the Rainbows to just one hit while walking two. Boer recorded at least seven strikeouts for the third time in his career and faced just two batters over the minimum. Boer went six innings without allowing a hit before All-American Kolten Wong broke up the no-hitter with a single in the seventh. His eight innings on the mound and seven strikeouts matched career highs.
This is the Boer's first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor and the second all-time selection for Oregon.
Arizona State junior third baseman Riccio Torrez was named Pac-10 Player of the Week.
Torrez was the offensive catalyst for the Sun Devils in their three-game sweep of New Mexico. The Phoenix, Ariz., native drove in seven runs in the three games, including three home runs. He drove in a career-high five RBI on opening night, thanks to his first career multi-homer game. After the two on Friday, Torrez added an inside the park home run in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
This marks the second career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Torrez and Arizona State's Conference-leading 96th all-time Player of the Week selection.
