WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon junior second baseman Danny Pulfer has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for May 9-15, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Pulfer led the Ducks last week, batting .565 with five runs scored and four runs driven in as Oregon went 3-1-1 and won their second Pac-10 series of the season. The Cypress, Calif., native led the team with a .738 slugging percentage and recorded five-consecutive games with multiple hits as Oregon’s leadoff batter.
In Friday’s series opening, 6-2, win over Stanford, Pulfer went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored. On Sunday, as Oregon clinched the series with a 6-5 victory, Pulfer went 2-for-4. During the three-game series, he batted .615 and was perfect in the field with seven assists.
This marks the first career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Pulfer and Oregon’s fourth all-time Player of the Week selection. Pulfer is Oregon’s second Pac-10 Player of the Week this year as freshman Aaron Jones received the honor on March 21.
Pulfer currently leads Oregon and ranks sixth in the Pac-10 hitting .349 on the season with 13 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 15 RBIs and a team-leading (tied) 29 runs scored.
In Pac-10 play, Pulfer’s numbers have improved as he leads the league in average (.409) and hits (36) in conference games only.
Arizona junior right-hander Kyle Simon was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week.
The Ducks return to the field at 6 p.m., Tuesday to host a two-game non-conference series with Gonzaga at PK Park. Tuesday is a BI-Mart $2 Day. Fans can pick up a coupon at any Eugene or Springfield BI-Mart location and receive a general admission ticket for only $2. The second game will played at 1 p.m., Wednesday.
Oregon, coming off a series win over Stanford, will travel to Washington State this weekend to play the Cougars.
