• Boosted the Canadian Junior National Team to a fifth-place showing in the World Junior Championships in South Africa in December 2011 – one place shy of its all-time best placing (2-1, 17.1 IP, 16 SO, 5 BB).

• As a prep, was a Nebraska All-Class All-State First-Team choice as a sophomore, junior and senior, and helped her team to the state title in the fall of 2010 (25-4).

2012 SEASON (Freshman).
Key addition for the Ducks in the circle, especially when one of the team's expected key senior pitchers (Samantha Skillingstad) unexpectedly missed the season due to a back injury. Hovinga ultimately shared the pitching workload with All-American Jessica Moore, and appeared in every tournament or series except one (the NCAA Regional). Tied for the team lead in saves (2), and ranked second on squad in ERA (3.09), wins (12), appearances (30), starts (16), complete games (10), innings (120), strikeouts (71), and opponent batting average (.249). In the postseason, pitched three scoreless innings among her two appearances in Oklahoma City and Austin (.111, 3 SO, 1 H, 0 BB). Logged her first collegiate shutout vs. San Jose State the opening week of the campaign (5 IP, 3 SO, 3 BB, 4 H). Added another shutout the following tournament vs. Butler (7 IP, 5 SO, 3 BB, 4 H). Her next shutout in April also marked her first Pac-12 win at Utah (7 IP, 6 SO, 4 BB, 5 H). He final shutout came in May vs. Seattle - a one-hitter (1 SO, 2 BB) - after she pitched a complete game immediately before vs. the Redhawks and led UO to a doubleheader sweep. Also got both wins in April doubleheader vs. the NCAA advancer Portland State and her combined stats follow (12 IP, 6 SO, 3 BB, 9H).  Another key win came vs. NCAA advancer Illinois State (5-2, 7 IP, 5 SO, 0 BB, 6 H) in Orlando in early March. Capped collegiate slate with two innings vs. No. 1 seed California on Day 3 of the World Series (2 SO, 0 H, 0 BB). Defensively for the season, logged a .967 fielding mark (6 putouts, 23 assists, 1 error). In the ISF World Championships in July, she made three appearances for the Canadian National Team, including two starts vs. Great Britain (8-1 win, 5 IP, 3 SO, 2 BB, 4 H, 1 R) and Mexico (8-0 win, 5 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 0 S). Her other appearance was in relief vs. eventual world champion Japan (6-2 loss, 1 IP, 1 SO, 1 BB, 2 H, 1 ER) in opening pool play.

Prep: An All-Class All-State First-Team choice the last three seasons, she helped her team to the state title in the fall of 2010 (25-4) and also as a freshman, to go along with four district titles and two conference crowns (2008, ’09). A three-time All-Metro Conference First-Team pick (2008-10), she struck out 285 batters as a senior – including 14 in the state finale - and logged a 0.38 season ERA. In summer of 2011, played on Canadian National Team that competed in the Canadian International Open and the World Cup of Softball events, while her Frozen Ropes Fury club team finished seventh in the 18-U national tournament in Illinois.  In 2010, her club won the USSA national championship, and staked a top-16 finish in the ASA Nationals in 2009 and runner-up placing in the 2007 AFA Nationals. She also helped Canadian junior national teams finish sixth in the 2009 ISF Youth U16 World Cup in Prague (1-2, 1.21 ERA, 34 SO, 29 IP) and claim silver in the 2010 Junior World Championships in Bogota, Columbia (2-1, 1.21 ERA, 33 SO, 6 BB, 29 IP). Off the field was an honor roll member all four years in high school.
