PORTLAND, Ore. - University of Oregon junior and volleyball outside hitter Alaina Bergsma added more good news to an already exciting Sunday with a win in the Miss Oregon USA pageant.

The returning All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention pick won the two-day competition held Saturday and Sunday at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Portland.

The 6-3 second-year Duck is the volleyball team’s current season leader in points (5.13 per set), kills (4.44 p/s) and aces (0.26 p/s). Those totals rank fourth in the Pac-12 in each category, and last week she stood 15th and 16th nationally in points and kills, respectively.

Overall this fall, the two Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honoree has led the team in kills and points in 23 of the team's 30 matches. Likewise, she has posted its top marks in service aces in a team-high 12 matches, hitting seven times, blocks in four contests and digs twice.

Off the court, the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team choice and business major is equally accomplished, and entered the fall with a 3.70 cumulative GPA.

Closer to home team-wise, the No. 13 ranked Ducks (21-9, 14-8) were selected for the 64-team NCAA Volleyball Tournament Sunday afternoon - their fifth NCAA Tournament invitation the last six years.

Oregon will open the postseason against Mountain West Conference champion Colorado State (22-5, 12-2) this Thursday, December 1.

The match is set for the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu and will start at 7 p.m. Pacific Time (5 p.m. local time). Immediately after, host and #10 seed Hawai’i (29-1), will host Northern Colorado (22-8) at 9 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. local.

The two match winners will then play each other at 9 p.m. PT on Friday, December 2.
