Johnson Receives Third Academic All-American Honor

TOWSON, Md. – Oregon senior Amanda Johnson was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I  Women’s Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced today.

A graduate student who is pursuing her Master’s degree in counseling psychology and human services, Johnson has a 4.16 G.P.A., and was a first team selection last season after earning second team honors in 2010.

A native of Santa Rosa, Calif., Johnson is a two-time member of the Pac 12 All-Academic team, and is a two-time All-Pac 12 Conference honorable mention selection. She ranks among Oregon’s all-time leaders in points (1,456, 7th), rebounds (855, 5th), steals (187, 5th), three-pointers (160, 6th), double-doubles (28, T-5th) and double-figure scoring games (71, 8th). Johnson graduated in the top two percent of her class after her sophomore year with a double major in psychology and sociology.

Johnson is the only student-athlete in the history of the Oregon women’s basketball team to earn the honor three times, and is the second UO women’s basketball player following Stefanie Kasperski, to receive first team honors in back-to-back years.

In addition to Academic All-American® of the Year Elena Delle Donne of the University of Delaware , senior guard Roxana Button of Houston, junior guard Caroline Durbin of New Mexico and senior forward Gloria Johnson of Tennessee round out the Capital One Academic All-America® Women’s Basketball Division I first team.

Johnson is currently a candidate for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, and leads the Ducks averaging 19.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Despite missing 11 games with a broken thumb this season, Johnson has led Oregon in scoring on 11 occasions, and has led UO on the boards 12 times.

Johnson and her fellow seniors Jasmin Holliday and Nia Jackson will play their final game at Matthew Knight Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday, hosting Oregon State in the second round of the Civil War series.
