EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 56 ranked University of Oregon men's tennis team travels north for a pair of duals with their in-state rivals Portland State University and the University of Portland. The Ducks (12-1) will face the Vikings on Monday (Mar. 26) at noon before taking on the Pilots on Tuesday (Mar. 27) at 1 p.m.
The Vikings of Portland State (2-12) are coming into the match up against Oregon on a five-match losing streak including a 6-1 loss against Portland on Mar. 10. The Viks are led by redshirt sophomore Roman Margoulis. The Luxembourg native plays exclusively at No. 1 singles and has compiled a 6-8 singles record this season.
The Pilots (10-2) have rebounded from a two-match losing streak to win three in a row heading into the weekend. Portland will first face the No. 23 ranked University of San Diego Toreros on Friday (Mar. 23) and Saint Mary's on Sunday (Mar. 25) before taking on the Ducks on Tuesday (Mar. 27). The Pilots are led by a trio of sophomores, Alex Ferrero, Justin Guay and Michel Hu Kwo. The three underclassmen have combined for a singles record of 33-23.
Oregon is off to one of the best starts in school history thanks in part to a record-breaking start by the doubles tandem of Jeff Mullen and Robin Cambier. Together, Mullen and Cambier have already broken the record for single-season doubles wins with 21 compared to just one loss. In singles, Cambier remains perfect posting a 13-0 record primarily at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Alex Rovello has headlined the Oregon attack from No. 1 singles. The Portland, Ore. native has accumulated 20 dual singles wins at the No. 1 position in just his second year at Oregon.
