PULLMAN, Wash. - The No. 65 University of Oregon women's tennis team fell to No. 32 Washington State Cougars, 5-2, Friday morning at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
"Credit to Washington State they have been having a great year and played very well today," said women's head coach Paul Reber. "It's a disappointing loss for us as we look to finish the year strong. We have a tough Idaho team tomorrow that we need to be ready for."
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches. At the top for WSU was their combination of Ksenia Googe and Andjela Kankaras who defeated Oregon's No. 50 ranked team of junior Patricia Skowronski and freshman Sofia Hager, 8-5, to clinch the opening point. After losing the point, the Ducks were able to break through at No. 2 doubles where the tandem of junior Julia Metzger and senior Trudie du Toit defeated Washington State's Liudmila Vasilieva and Elizaveta Luzina, 8-4. The win for Metzger and du Toit was their 11th of the spring, all coming at No. 2 doubles.
