EUGENE, Ore.- Representatives from eight different sports at the University of Oregon will team up with the organization Courts for Kids to build a sports court in Los Cerros, Dominican Republic, June 15-23.

Student-athletes from the football, lacrosse, men's golf, women's track and field, men's tennis, acrobatics and tumbling, softball and soccer teams will have the opportunity to serve as cultural ambassadors not only representing Oregon, but the United States in building a sports court that at its completion will be the site of a mini-camp put on by the student-athletes.

Los Cerros is part of the rural town of Don Juan, located two hours north of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. With a population of around 1,000, the members of the Los Cerros community will also share the courts with the youth of Batey Vermejo.

The 15 student-athletes will have the chance to experience a different culture and interact with a population who possess different values and norms, and providing the University representatives the chance to grow and learn in the process.

The student-athletes will travel with four staff members from the athletic department.
