Ducks Announce 2012-13 Schedule
Release Date: 08/17/2012
EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon women’s basketball program has announced its 2012-13 schedule which features 18 regular-season games to be played at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene. Of the Ducks’ 23 opponents, 13 competed in postseason play a year ago.
Highlighting the schedule is a Dec. 31 home game with seven-time NCAA champion Connecticut. The Ducks will also participate in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown played in Honolulu Nov. 23-25.
“We are excited about the challenges that this difficult schedule presents,” head coach Paul Westhead said. “We have some traditional powers in the non-conference, and some very good teams in the Pac-12. It’s a schedule that will test us early and often.”

Seven of UO’s opponents participated in the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, while another six took part in the postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament. In addition to the Pac-12 Conference schools on the schedule, UO will battle teams from 10 other conferences: Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Big Sky, Big West, Mountain West, Southeastern, Southern, Western Athletic and West Coast.
To tip-off the season, Oregon will have a pair of exhibition games hosting Southern Oregon on Oct. 30 and Corban University on Nov. 7.
The Ducks open the regular season with home games against Saint Mary’s on Nov. 11 and Portland State on Nov. 15. The Gaels advanced to the WNIT second round a year ago.
Next up for Oregon is the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown where UO will battle host-school Hawaii on Nov. 23, before taking on Oklahoma on Nov. 24 and Arkansas on Nov. 25. Both the Sooners and the Razorbacks were NCAA tournament teams last season.
UO returns to Eugene for a pair of non-conference home games against Denver (Dec. 2) and Nevada (Dec. 9). The Ducks then head to the Midwest for a one-game road trip at Illinois (Dec. 12).
Oregon will stay in-state for its final four non-conference games. UO hosts Fresno State (Dec. 16) and Samford (Dec. 18), two teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament last season. The Ducks will play at Portland (Dec. 21) prior to taking a short holiday break.
UO closes out the non-league schedule at home against UConn on New Year’s Eve.
The Pac-12 women’s basketball schedule will feature games on Fridays and Sundays. However, some dates may be shifted for television purposes. The Ducks open league play at home against UCLA (Jan. 4) and USC (Jan. 6) before playing five of their next six conference games away from home.
That stretch of games starts off in the desert with UO facing Arizona State (Jan. 11) and Arizona (Jan. 13). The Sun Devils are one of the six opponents who participated in the 2012 WNIT.
Beginning this season, Oregon will play home and away games with rival Oregon State in the same week. The Ducks-Beavers contest at Matt Arena is on Jan. 18, while the game at Gill Coliseum is slated for two days later on Jan. 20.
Oregon will close out the month of January with games at Washington State (Jan. 25) and Washington (Jan. 27). The Huskies advanced to the WNIT quarterfinal round a year ago.
The Ducks host a pair of NCAA tournament teams the first week in February when Stanford (Feb. 1) and California (Feb. 3) visit Matthew Knight Arena.
UO will then play a pair of 2012 WNIT participants at Utah (Feb. 8) and Colorado (Feb. 10), before hosting return games with the Huskies (Feb. 15) and the Cougars (Feb. 17).
Oregon’s final road trip will be to the Bay Area when the Ducks play at California (Feb. 22) and Stanford (Feb. 24). UO closes out the regular-season schedule at home against Colorado (March 1) and Utah (March 3).
The Pac-12 tournament will be played March 7-10 at Key Arena in Seattle, Wash. The league’s postseason tournament will be played in the Emerald City over the next three seasons.
In addition to a 30-game regular-season schedule and two home exhibition games, UO will travel to Spain Aug. 23-Sept. 2 to play four exhibition games as part of a 10-day foreign tour.
