Ducks Improve to 3-0 With Win Over Uni Girona
Release Date: 08/30/2012
The game was played as part of the Torneig de Basquet Unnim tournament played at the Pavello Esportiu Municipal located approximately an hour north of Barcelona, Spain.
It was the first time UO reached the 100-point mark since recording a 102-93 victory over Cal Poly on Nov. 13, 2011.
The Ducks led 48-32 at the half before out-scoring Uni Girona 55-30 over the final two periods.
“We are getting back on track to playing fastbreak basketball,” head coach Paul Westhead said. “We are pushing the ball and creating scoring opportunities. That’s obviously one of our goals - to be a high scoring team.”
Freshman forward Jillian Alleyne tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace UO. Alleyne was 10-of-11 on field goals in just 20 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Amanda Delgado scored 22 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-13 from behind the 3-point arc.
Sophomore forward Megan Carpenter posted a double-double with 19 points and a team-best 11 rebounds. Seven of Carpenter’s boards came on the offensive end.
“Megan and Jill kind of dominated inside tonight,” Westhead said. “We are getting more play action into our post players than we normally do. Are posts are doing a good job of running the floor and getting to the offensive glass.”
Oregon out-rebounded Uni Girona, 59-31, a number that included 22 offensive boards for the Ducks.
Sophomore guard Lexi Petersen and senior guard Laura Stanulis scored 13 and 11 points, respectively. Petersen also contributed nine rebounds, while Stanulis added five assists and seven steals for UO.
The Ducks made 48.9 percent of their field goal attempts (40-of-82), while hitting for 32.3 percent from behind the 3-point arc (10-of-31). UO went 13-of-25 from the free throw line for 52 percent.
As a team, Oregon registered 19 assists and 16 turnovers. UO forced Uni Girona into 23 turnovers while limiting them to eight assists.
Uni Girona was led by Cynthia Molina who had 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Laura Ribas was the only other Uni Girona player in double-figures, scoring 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.
The Ducks limited Uni Girona to just 34.4 percent shooting (22-of-64). Uni Girona made 7-of-17 from behind the arc (41 percent) and 11-of-17 from the charity stripe.
Oregon returns to action on Saturday against Santa Rosa de Lima in UO’s final contest on the 2012 Spanish Foreign Tour. That game is scheduled for 8 p.m. (Spanish Time) and is also part of the Torneig de Basquet Unnim tournament played in Sant Julia, Spain.
