SANT JULIA, Spain -- The University of Oregon women’s basketball team closed out its 2012 Spanish Foreign Tour with a 70-52 win over Santa Rosa de Lima on Saturday night at the Pavello Esportiu Municipal in Sant Julia, Spain. The Ducks finished the trip with a 4-0 record.

“Our group of young players – the freshmen and sophomores in particular – learned to play together and a lot about each other,” head coach Paul Westhead said. “It was exactly what we hoped for: a mini-season to give us some advance indications of what we have to do.

“This is not the Pac-12, but it is a good indicator that the team will play well and will get better,” Westhead said.

Four sophomores led the way in scoring for UO. Amanda Delgado posted a team-high for the second time on the trip with 15 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Lexi Petersen scored 13 points and shot a team-best 60 percent from the field (6-of-10).

Jordan Loera had 11 points and six rebounds, while Megan Carpenter contributed 10 points and a team-best 14 rebounds. It was Carpenter’s third double-double of the trip.

Oregon held the rebounding advantage for the fourth time in four games, edging Santa Rosa de Lima on the glass, 64-44. Three Ducks had 10 or more boards in the game. Along with Carpenter, junior Danielle Love grabbed 11 rebounds and freshman Jillian Alleyne added 10 rebounds.

“Some of our inside players – Megan Carpenter and Jill Alleyne – are new to the scene and they responded very well,” Westhead added.

The Ducks limited Santa Rosa de Lima to just 28.6 percent overall on field goals (22-of-77) and 18 percent on 3-point attempts (5-of-28). Santa Rosa de Lima was 3-of-7 from the free throw line (43 percent).

Oregon also took 77 shots in the game, but managed to make 27 of those attempts for 35.1 percent. UO was 7-of-35 from behind the 3-point arc (20 percent) – with Delgado making five of those seven 3-pointers.The Ducks went 9-of-17 from the free throw line (53 percent).

UO led by two points at the half, 28-26, but stormed out of the locker room and out-scored the opponent 42-22 over the final two periods.

The Ducks will play their next opponent on Oct. 30 when they host Southern Oregon in the first of two preseason exhibition games for the 2012-13 season. Other key dates for the upcoming campaign include Sept. 19 when UO can begin individual workouts and Oct. 4 when the first day of official practices can begin.
