Parker Tops No. 14 Ducks in St. Mary’s Invite Day 1

SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 14 University of Oregon men’s golf team opened action in the St. Mary’s Invitational Monday in third place, thanks to its a seven-over score on the Blackhorse Golf Course.

After Monday’s two rounds, UO (296-287-583) stood only eight strokes behind the leader and host St. Mary’s (first, 290-285-575). Fresno State followed in second place (289-288-577) in the 15-team field.

On the individual front, redshirt senior Tyler Parker (ninth, 76-68-144) logged his first under-par collegiate round in the afternoon – a four-under, second-round 68 – to pace UO for the first time in his career and was all even after two rounds.  

In Monday’s final 18 holes, the Portland, Ore., native logged an eagle on the par-5 12th hole; shot five birdies on holes #1, 3, 7, 14, 16; carded 10 par scores (#2, 6, 8-11, 13, 15, 17-18); one bogey (#5); and one double-bogey (#4).

In the day’s first round, Parker opened with two birdies (#10, 12), 11 par scores (#1, 2, 4-7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18), four bogeys (E8, 14, 16, 17) and one double-bogey (#3).

On the par-72, 7,024-yard course, two other Ducks were tied for 15th place overall with two-over scores – sophomore Rak Cho (74-72-146) and freshman Sulman Raza (72-74-146). Among those two scores, Cho staked his 12th career round of par or better, while Raza enjoyed his first.

UO’s two other team entries also stood top 30 overall – sophomore Jonathan Woo (23rd-tie, 74-74-148) and freshman Brandon McIver (29th-tie, 77-73-150).

One other Duck – sophomore Tye Gabriel – competed as an individual and also stood top 30 overall (29th, 75-75-150).

Cho also staked an eagle Monday on the par-four 12th in the first round, and remaining Duck birdie/par counts for Monday’s 36 holes follow: Cho (6/21), Raza (6/23), Woo (4/25), Mc Iver (5/23) and Gabriel (6/21).

Overall on the individual leaderboard, Jonathan De Los Reye of St. Mary’s (72-68-140) was tied for the lead with Ryan Williams of Sacramento State (72-68-140) with four-under scores.

Four other players followed in a tie for third place with two-under scores of 142.
