Ducks Finish Day 1 in Stanford

Stanford, Calif.--The Ducks finished day 1 at the Northwest Regional Championships in Stanford, California with three players moving on to the round of 32. 

“It was a good day,” said head coach Paul Reber. “We had some kids playing well. Patricia and Julia are still in the main draw, playing in the round of 32 tomorrow. Both of our doubles teams are alive in the doubles draw. We’re hoping to play well tomorrow and keep going.”

Fifteenth seeded Ducks’ senior Patricia Skowronski beat Louise Oxnevad 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Julia Metzger won both of her matches, defeating Sacramento State's Knoebl and UC-Davis' Jaramishian 6-3, 6-0. Both seniors move into the round of 32 to continue play tomorrow.

Nicole Long won her first match over Anne Susdorf 6-1, 7-5, before falling to Elizaveta Luzina 6-3, 6-4. Fellow sophomore Sofia Hager also won her first match over UC-Davis' Lauren Curry 6-3, 6-3. She went on to face California's Susanyi who is the fifth ranked player in the nation and fell 6-0, 6-3. 

Metzger and Pascale Neubert won their first doubles match of the tournament against Gonzaga 8-4.
