EUGENE – Sporting its eighth top-five ranking this season, the University of Oregon volleyball team (22-3, 13-3) repeated its position in this week’s 12th AVCA Coaches Poll of the season.
The Ducks come off their second straight season sweep of its desert Pac-12 rivals (and ever). UO beat Arizona State by a 3-2 count for its 10th straight series win, while it posted its fourth straight 3-0 victory in the series vs. Arizona.
UO was one of five Pac-12 schools spotted in the top eight overall this week with No. 1 Stanford, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Washington and No. 8 USC.
Among those five teams, Stanford, remained the same this edition; UCLA climbed one spot; Washington fell one position; and Oregon and USC stayed the same.
One other Duck foes stood top 25 – No. 15 Ohio State – and California, Kentucky, Oregon State and St. Mary’s have picked up votes in current or previous editions.
For comparison’s sake, last week’s Pac-12 rankings follow: No. 1 Stanford, No. 5 Washington, No. 6 UCLA and No. 8 USC.
Overall during head coach Jim Moore’s eight-year tenure, Oregon has now been ranked top 25 for 87 editions (2012-13; 2011-14; ’10-13; ’09-16; ’08-16; ’07-13; ’06-2), including 51 in the top 15, and all 24 of the team’s ever top-10 honors. UO has also scored five, top-three rankings in September and October with its No. 2 rankings in the fifth, sixth and 10th editions of the year, and third-place pollings in the eighth and ninth editions
Among other poll news:
- No. 1 Stanford repeated as the top team in the nation for the third straight week after it won 3-0 at WSU and 3-1 at then-No. 5 Washington.
- No. 2 Penn State won 3-0 at home vs. Illinois and Northwestern.
- No. 3 Texas – won 3-2 at then-No. 23 Kansas and 3-0 at then-No. 17 Kansas State.
- No. 5 UCLA won 3-0 at Colorado and 3-2 at Utah.
- No. 6 Washington 3-2 at home over California and lost 3-1 to No. 1 Stanford in Seattle.
- No. 8 USC won 3-1 at Utah and 3-0 at Colorado.
