EUGENE -- The University of Oregon recently released a comprehensive economic study, pointing to the positive impact direct spending by the university, its researchers, students and visitors have on the state and local economies.
Oregon Athletics played a significant role, attracting visitors to events that resulted in more than $60 million in local spending. All told, the local economy in Lane County realized an impact of $101.2 million and saw the creation or support of more than 1,200 jobs.
The study, assembled via the research of UO economist Dr. Tim Duy, revealed the gross economic impact from all revenue sources of the Athletic Department covers $258 million of economic activity, affecting 2,720 jobs statewide.
