EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon soccer team has wrapped up its 2013 spring exhibition season with a 2-1-2 record. The Ducks out-scored their opponents 10-4 in those five outings.
Seven different Ducks scored goals during the spring exhibition season. Sophomores Maryn Beutler, Brooke Strawn and Kira Wagoner each had two goals to lead the Ducks. Junior Kiyomi Cook, sophomores Kristen Parr and Cara Wegner and freshman Ashlee Schulz each scored one goal.
Oregon defeated Portland State 1-0 and battled to a 2-2 draw with UC Davis in the final two matches of the spring.
In the win over the Vikings on Saturday, May 4, the lone goal of the match was scored by Schulz which was assisted by junior Kelsey Foo.
In the draw with UC Davis on Saturday, May 11, UO’s goals were scored by Wagoner and Strawn. The first goal of that match, scored by Wagoner, was assisted by junior Bri Pugh.
Oregon opened the exhibition season on April 6 with a 7-1 home win over Southern Oregon. The Ducks lost 1-0 at Pac-12 foe Washington on April 21, before battling to a scoreless draw with Oregon State on April 27.
UO returns 20 players, including five starters, from last year’s squad which finished the regular-season 8-10-2 overall and 3-7-1 in Pac-12 Conference action.
Oregon head coach Kat Mertz, in her first year at the helm of the program, is currently serving as an assistant coach with the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team in Chula Vista, Calif. This comes on the heels of her work as an assistant at the U.S. U-23 National Team Training Camp which occurred April 13-20 in Carson, Calif.
