Oregon’s game at Cal next fall will take place in a showcase time slot at a showcase location.

The Golden Bears announced Tuesday that they will host the Ducks on a Friday night next season, Oct. 24, 2014. The game will be nationally televised by either ESPN or FOX, and will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., the new home venue for the San Francisco 49ers as of next season.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity to play the first college game ever at Levi’s Stadium,” UO athletic director Rob Mullens said. “We have tremendous respect for the 49ers organization and have had an opportunity to meet with some of their leadership. Their commitment to innovation and technology within the new stadium align very well with our athletic department goals.

“We have always been well represented at games in the Bay Area and look forward to Duck fans making their presence known against Cal.”

The $1.2 billion Levi’s Stadium will seat 68,500, and has already been selected to host the Super Bowl in 2016. It will also be the home of the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl as of next season.

“I know that our players will embrace the chance to play Oregon at Levi's Stadium next fall, and I'm sure our fans will create a great atmosphere for our team,” Cal coach Sonny Dykes said. “This is a special opportunity to play in a stadium where the Super Bowl will be held in the near future and one that we feel can generate a tremendous overall experience for everyone involved.”

Oregon’s 2014 schedule opens with three nonconference home games, against South Dakota, Wyoming and Michigan State. The Ducks will again miss USC and Arizona State in conference play, with the full Pac-12 schedule to be released early next year.
