Each month O Heroes sits down with one male student-athlete and one female student-athlete to get to know them better off the field. January’s Female Hero of the Month is Chelsea Randel, a senior defender for the Oregon lacrosse team.
Randel’s love of the outdoors is apparent through her favorite hobbies, which include hiking, skiing and wakeboarding. She calls Pleasanton, Calif. home, but plans to eventually visit all 50 states and seven continents.
Randel’s character and ambition on the field transcends to her community involvement. Over the last three years, Randel’s participated in over 20 O Heroes events, including Quakin’ Action and Showtime.
Most recently, Randel shopped and delivered Thanksgiving baskets in support of the St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Basket Drive.
While juggling lacrosse and school, Randel is dedicated to giving back. Almost every afternoon she can be found volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley. Randel’s drive makes her a true O Hero through her work with kids in after-school activities.
This spring, Randel will earn a degree in family and human services. After graduation she hopes to secure a job and continue to volunteer at a local community program.
