Record-setting running back/return man for the Oregon football team is also a Pac-10 scorer at 100 meters and on the 4x100 meter relay squad. Became one of only three Oregon student-athletes to win both a Pac-10 track and field and football championship in the same academic year. In 2010, he and teammate Kenjon Barner became the first to accomplish that at Oregon in 74 years; the only other Duck to do the same was Bob Parke, a member of the 1933 Pacific Coast Conference football champions and the PCC track winners for the Webfoots while throwing the javelin in 1934. James and Barner accomplished that feat again in 2011. The 2006 Texas 100 meter state champion.

2010-11: Outdoors - Concluded track season on the 4x100 meter relay team at the NCAA West Preliminary meet. Anchored 4x100 meter relay team to a season-best 40.09 in a fifth-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships. That was the seventh-fastest time in school history. Also ran a seasonal-best 10.62 in the 100 meters. Outdoor debut came in the 100 meters at the Oregon Twilight, where he won his heat in 10.76. Also ran on the 4x100 relay. Indoors - Opened season at the Husky Classic, where he ran 6.87 in the 60 meter preliminaries and tied for second in the final (6.88). On the football field, was the 2010 Doak Walker Award winner as the nation's top running back, after setting school record with 1,731 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Season Bests: Outdoors - 100 Meters - 10.62, Pac-10 Championships, Tucson, Ariz. (5/13/11). Indoors - 60 Meters - 6.87, Husky Classic, Seattle, Wash. (2/12/11).

2009-10: Pac-10 scorer in the 100 meters and the 4x100 meter relay. Outdoors - Helped Oregon win its fourth straight Pac-10 title by taking fifth in the 100 meters in 10.72 and anchoring the fourth-place 4x100 meter relay team (40.36). Opened season with a third-place run against UCLA in 10.90. Won the 100 at the Oregon Twilight (10.62). Clocked best time of the season, a wind-aided 10.52 in the Pac-10 100 meter preliminaries. Anchored the 4x100 meter relay team four times, including the top two times of the season, 40.57 (prelims) and 40.36 (finals) at the Pac-10 meet. Indoors - Competed twice in the 60 meters with a best of 6.77 at the Husky Classic. That time is tied for fourth all-time at Oregon. Football - Set a Pac-10 freshmen record with 1,546 rushing yards for the 2009 conference champions. Season Bests: Outdoors - 100 Meters - 10.52 (w+2.7), Pac-10 Championships, Berkeley, Calif. (5/15/10). Indoors - 60 Meters - 6.77 (PR), Husky Classic, Seattle, Wash. (2/13/10).

2008-09: Redshirted the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Prep: Won the 2006 Texas 100 meter championship in 10.51 for Liberty-Eylau High School. Also ran on Liberty-Eylau's state runner-up 4x100 meter (42.28) and 4x400 meter (3:23.31) relay teams. In football, was an all-state selection at running back following his junior and senior seasons. Set city and season and single game rushing records with 2,043 yards and 322 yards, respectively, following his senior year. Helped lead team to football state title in 2006.
