EUGENE -- The University of Oregon softball team announced the signing of five prep athletes to National Letters of Intent as announced by head coach Kathy Arendsen today.
Monique Fuiava, first baseman from Mohave High School in Las Vegas, Nev., twins Cortney and Ashley Kivett from Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa, Calif., Kaitlin Vitek from William S. Hart High School in Valencia, Calif. and pitcher Brittany Rumfelt from Clearlake High School in Lakeport, Calif., will all join the Ducks as freshman for the 2008 season.
Fuiava plays for the Las Vegas Lil’ Rebels Gold in Las Vegas, which finished fifth in the nation two years in a row before finishing 13th in 2006. After hitting .534 with four home runs and 15 RBI was a third-team all-state selection.
The Kivett sisters both played for the California Sudden Impact Gold club team. Ashley was a second-team All-Citrus Belt League and honorable mention CIF honoree while Cortney earned first-team league and first-team CIF honors.
Vitek (pronounced VEE tech) won the academic scholar award for the past three years as she has had a 4.0 grade point average or higher since her freshman year.
Rumfelt, a left-handed pitcher, helped lead her high school team to the league title and was named the team’s most valuable player. She has been named the league MVP twice (2005, 2006) was also a first-team all-league selection in 2005.
The Ducks graduate four players following the 2007 season.
