EUGENE, Ore. – Taylor Lilley hit the trifecta on Friday night as the senior shooting guard scored a career-high 33 points, reached the 1,000-point threshold for her career and broke the career all-time three-point record in Oregon history as the Ducks held off Washington for an 82-71 victory to open up Pac-10 play at Mac Court. The Ducks improve to 10-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference, while the Huskies fall to 5-6 and 0-1 in league. For Oregon, the program’s 10 wins is already more than all of last season. Lilley came into the evening needing seven points to reach 1,000 for her career, and eight three-pointers to break Missy Croshaw’s previous record of 189. It didn’t take long for Lilley to break the 1,000-point threshold, scoring her eighth point of the game – 1,001 of her career – with a layup at the 13:34 mark to give the Ducks a 19-14 edge. In the second half, Lilley drained her eighth three-pointer of the game – tying a single-game UO record – and putting her career total at 190 to set the all-time record for the Ducks Lilley’s game-high 33 points was also a career high, including a single-game best for the Pac-10 this season. The Newhall, Calif., native’s eight treys were also a new career best. The Ducks are now off to their best start since the 2005-06 season – since before Lilley and fellow UO senior Micaela Cocks were on campus. After heading into halftime with a 13-point lead, 43-30, Washington retook the momentum in the second period, cutting a one-time 16-point Oregon advantage to a one-point lead. The Huskies went on a 25-10 run, trailing by just 56-55, with 9:51 left in the game. But back-to-back three-pointers from Lilley and fellow senior Micaela Cocks gave Oregon the breathing room it needed to hang on down the stretch. Lilley’s record-breaking 190th career basket from long distance came at 3:54 mark as the Ducks took a 77-62 lead. Cocks added 14 on the night, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and dishing a game-high tying five assists. Victoria Kenyon reached double-figures for the second straight game, adding 11 points on three baskets from behind the three-point arc. Junior forward Nicole Canepa added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. The Huskies, who outscored Oregon in the paint 38-24, were led by Mackenzie Argens’ 21 points and game-high nine rebounds – seven on the offensive end. UO shot 50.0 percent (27-of-54) for the game, but turned the ball over 19 times and surrendered 16 offensive boards, allowing the Huskies 21 second-chance points. Washington shot 45.0 percent (27-of-60) from the floor and turned the ball over 18 times. Lilley led Oregon with 16 points at the break, as Argens led the Huskies with 15. The teams played a sloppy first half of basketball as the clubs combined to turn the ball over 24 times, but UO shot 53.1 percent from the floor, including 10 points on the fastbreak. The Ducks lead reached a double-digit lead after a three-pointer from Kenyon had Oregon up 30-20 with 9:53 remaining. Oregon then held the Huskies scoreless, going on a 10-0 run as UW finally scored on a Christina Rozier free throw with 5:10 left. Canepa added nine points and six rebounds for Oregon in the first half. Former Oregon great Cathrine Kraayeveld was honored prior to the start of the game as part of the University of Oregon Athletic Department’s celebration of its final Pac-10 season at Mac Court.
