WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Senior guard Taylor Lilley led Oregon to a 2-0 start in Pac-10 play last week while also reaching a number of individual milestones, and she was rewarded with her first Pac-10 Player of the Week Award for the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 4, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Lilley played a huge role in Oregon opening up Pac-10 play 2-0 for the first time since the 2004-05 season by averaging a team-leading 24.0 points per game. She also added 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in wins over Washington, 82-71, on Friday and Washington State, 98-92, on Sunday. The four-year senior shot .567 (17-of-30) from the floor and knocked down a combined 10 three-pointers. The sharp-shooter hit the trifecta in Friday’s win over the Huskies scoring a career-high 33 points, reaching the 1,000-point threshold for her career and breaking the career all-time three-point record in Oregon history. Lilley came into Friday’s game vs. Washington needing seven points to reach 1,000 for her career, and eight three-pointers to break Missy Croshaw’s previous record of 189 – which had stood for 16 years. It didn’t take long for Lilley to break the 1,000-point threshold, scoring her eighth point of the game – 1,001 of her career – with a layup at the 13:34 mark. In the second half, Lilley drained her eighth three-pointer of the game – tying a single-game UO record – and putting her career total at 190 to set the all-time record for the Ducks. Lilley’s game-high 33 points was also a new career high, including a single-game best for the Pac-10 this season. The Newhall, Calif., native’s eight treys were also a new career high. Lilley’s hot streak continued vs. Washington State on Sunday as she reached double figures for the 11th time this season scoring 15 points and adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals. The sharp-shooter put a dagger in WSU with a three-pointer that gave the Ducks a 91-86 lead with 2:08 remaining. Lilley’s 16.2 points per game leads the Ducks and ranks fourth in the Pac-10. Her 3.3 three-pointers per game lead the conference and rank 10th in the nation. Her 192 career treys lead all active players in the Pac-10. This is Oregon’s 35th Pac-10 Player of the Week Award, and the first for Lilley. It is the Ducks’ third honor this year, after junior Nicole Canepa was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Nov. 23, and sophomore Amanda Johnson received the award on Dec. 7. |
