Ducks Head To Corvallis For First Leg Of Civil War

Oregon takes its 2-0 Pac-10 start into Gill Coliseum on Saturday. The Ducks (11-3, 2-0) and Beavers (9-3, 1-1) will square off in the first leg of the Civil War Series with the tip time set at 1:06 p.m. from Corvallis. TV/BROADCASTS/MEDIA Oregon will makes its second television appearance of the season on Saturday, when Fox Sports Net broadcasts the Oregon-Oregon State game from Gill Coliseum. Jim Watson and Mary Murphy will call the game for FSN. Over the radio airwaves, Saturday’s game will be broadcast on KSCR 1320 AM with veteran announcer Terry Jonz calling the play-by-play. Oregon fans out of the viewing and listening airwaves can listen to Jonz’s call of the game on the O-Zone. No live streaming video will be available. Live stats will also be available on www.GoDucks.com. O-ZONE: ONLINE VIDEO & AUDIO/LIVE STATS Women’s basketball fans can now watch all non-televised home games live on the O-Zone at www.GoDucks.com. All home games will offer live video and audio. Live stats will also be available for all home games. COACHES SHOW The first edition of this year’s coaches’ show will air Monday, Jan. 11 on Comcast SportsNet Northwest. The show will feature interviews with UO men’s basketball head coach Ernie Kent and women’s basketball head coach Paul Westhead as well as game highlights and interviews with student-athletes from both teams. TICKETS Tickets are still available for Oregon’s next Pac-10 homesatnd with California (Thursday, Jan. 21) and Stanford (Saturday, Jan. 23) in town. Tickets can also be purchased at the McArthur Court ticket window 90 minutes prior to game time. The doors to Mac Court open 60 minutes prior to tip. PROMOTIONS Oregon fans can pick up a “$5 Off” coupon at any Eugene/Springfield area Carl’s Jr., BI-Mart, or Oregon Community Credit Union locations to receive $5 off a reserved ticket for Oregon’s game against California on Thursday, Jan. 21. FORMER DUCK GREATS RETURN TO MAC COURT The University of Oregon Athletic Department announced its plan to celebrate the final Pac-10 Conference women’s basketball season played at McArthur Court. Each Pac-10 game this season will have a pre-game ceremony featuring at least one honorary captain. In addition, the first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a 3x7 commemorative ticket highlighting the accomplishments of the honorary captain(s) for that contest. Missy Croshaw, who held the career all-time three-point record for 16 years before Taylor Lilley surpassed it, will be the honorary captain for the Oregon-California game on Thursday, Jan. 21. Debbie Sporcich will be the honorary captain for Oregon’s Fox Sports Net televised game with Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 23. MAC COURT MEMORIES The Oregon Athletics Department wants fans to submit their favorite Mac Court memories online and at all home basketball games. Duck fans can write-in their favorite memory of McArthur Court and/or send pictures in to athletics@uoregon.edu (all submissions become the property of the athletic department and will not be returned). OREGON STATE PREVIEW Oregon State enters the Civil War with a 9-3 record and a 1-1 mark in the Pac-10 Conference. The Beavers split their opening weekend with the Washington schools, defeating Washington State 63-49 last Friday, but falling to Washington, 69-64 on Sunday. OSU had won five in a row before its loss to the Huskies. OSU and UO feature drastically different styles as the Beavers rank first in the Pac-10 and ninth in the nation in scoring defense and are allowing just 51.4 points per game. Also, the Beavers are allowing teams to shoot just .222 from beyond the three-point line, which is third nationally. Junior Talisa Rhea is averaging 15.8 points per game and leads the Beavers with 45 assists. The results are not a surprise citing UO’s finish to the 2008-09 season which included dropping its final six games of the season and losing 10 of the final 11 tilts of the year. OREGON’S CURRENT STATUS (RANKINGS AS OF 1/03) • Oregon (11-3, 2-0) is currently leading the nation in scoring averaging 87.1 points per game. If the Ducks were to end the season as the national scoring leader, it would be the fourth time head coach Paul Westhead has led a collegiate squad that topped the country in scoring. During his tenure at Loyola Marymount, the Lions led the nation in scoring for three consecutive seasons; 1987-88, 1988-89, 1989-90. Other top-25 national marks for Oregon include: Category Rank Number Three-Point FG Per Game No. 6 8.9 Assists Per Game No. 12 17.9 Assist-to-Turnover Ratio No. 14 1.11 • Oregon is now 11-3 and off to its best start since the 2000-01 season. The Ducks have also started Pac-10 play 2-0 for the first time since 2004-05 - the last time UO advanced to the NCAA tournament. • Oregon is averaging 87.1 points per game this season - a 30-point plus turnaround from last season’s average of 56.6 points per game. • UO has three players in the top-10 of Pac-10 scoring leaders; Taylor Lilley (16.2 ppg; 4th), Micaela Cocks (14.7 ppg; 7th) and Amanda Johnson (14.4 ppg; 8th). • The Ducks’ 8.9 three-pointers per game rank sixth in the nation and lead the Pac-10. Morehead State leads the country averaging 10.1 treys per game. • Oregon’s 17.9 assists per game rank 12th in the nation and lead the Pac-10. • Amanda Johnson, who picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds vs. Washington State, is averaging 10.1 rebounds per game. Her average ranks second in the Pac-10 and 27th in the nation. • Taylor Lilley’s 3.3 three-pointers per game lead the Pac-10 and rank 10th in the nation PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior guard Taylor Lilley was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Ducks to a 2-0 start in conference play averaging 24.0 points per game. Lilley scored a career-high 33 points vs. Washington on Friday, while knocking down a career-best and single-game record tying eight three-pointers. Lilley’s eight three-pointers brought her career total to 190, breaking the 16-year old record of Missy Croshaw (189; 1991-94). Against Washington, Lilley also became the 21st player in UO history to reach the 1,000-point threshold for her career. She currently has scored 1,041 points in her career, good for 20th all-time. ALL IN THE BACKCOURT Lilley isn’t the only senior guard on the brink of breaking records. Micaela Cocks scored a team-high 22 points in Sunday’s win vs. Washington State, and is now averaging 14.7 points per game. She is on the brink of reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career as well with 918 career points. In addition, Cocks has played in 105 career games, and needs to appear in 11 more to break into the UO all-time top-10. Her career free-throw percentage of .855 (159-of-186) would set an all-time record as well, and her 145 career three-pointers rank fifth all-time. HOME SWEET HOME McArthur Court has been good to the Ducks this season as Oregon is 9-1 on its home floor, and 2-2 away from it. The Ducks average 90.0 points per game at Mac Court, and allow 66.6 points per game. On the road, Oregon averages 79.8 points per game, while opponents average 80.8 points per game. FASTBREAK LEADER Oregon’s starting point guard Nia Jackson contributed all over the box score in Sunday’s 98-92 win over Washington State. The Seattle native scored a career-high 20 points and added game highs in assists (7) and steals (5). Jackson’s 4.4 assists per game rank second in the Pac-10 and her 2.6 steals per game rank third. TEAM LEADER While just a sophomore, forward Amanda Johnson is currently one of two players in the Pac-10 averaging a double-double scoring and 14.4 points per game (8th Pac-10) and grabbing a team-leading 10.1 rebounds per game (2nd Pac-10). Johnson picked up her sixth double-double of the season scoring 12 points and bringing down a game-high 15 rebounds in UO’s win over WSU on Sunday. Johnson has 305 career rebounds to her credit, and Stanford sophomore Nnemakadi Ogwumike is the only underclassmen in the Pac-10 to top that mark with 344 in her career. MISSING LINK Junior forward Victoria Kenyon has been praised by head coach Paul Westhead for her defensive efforts on Oregon’s full-court press. That success has led to added confidence on the offensive end, and in her last three games, Kenyon has posted double figures. In her last three starts, Kenyon is averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the floor and 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from three-point range. THE BENCH While not a part of the starting lineup, sophomore Jasmin Holliday and junior Nicole Canepa are the first two players head coach Paul Westhead looks to off the bench. Canepa is averaging career highs with 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The San Francisco native has reached double-figures in 10 games this season. Holliday is averaging 7.4 points and 5.8 rebounds shooting 49.4 percent from the floor. BACK IN ACTION Senior Lindsey Saffold will be available for the game at Oregon State on Saturday. Saffold was unavailable last week after suffering a concussion at practice two days before the Pac-10 opener. WORLD VISION INVITATIONAL The Oregon women’s basketball program would like to thank all fans that donated to “Operation Safety Net” during the World Vision Invitational. World Vision raised $1,083 during the tournament enough to provide a net of protection for 180 children and one adult. One net covers two people.
