TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 33-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team stood in a tie for 12th place overall with No. 5 USC in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational’s first round Monday.

Oregon combined on a 25-over score of 309 at the par 71, 6,166-yard Arizona National Golf Club, while No. 1 Arizona State (6-over 290) paced the all-star field.

No. 21 Stanford followed three strokes back in second place (293), ahead of No. 16 Arizona (third, 294), No. 9 Pepperdine (fourth, 295) and No. 6 Duke (fifth, 296).

Other teams ranked ahead of UO included No. 28 New Mexico (sixth, 301), No. 13 California (seventh, 302), No. 14 Denver (eighth-tie, 304), No. 19 Oklahoma State (eighth-tie, 304), No. 7 Tennessee (10th, 307) and No. 2 Auburn (11th, 308).

Other teams in the 16-team tournament trailing UO and USC included No. 26 Tulane (14th, 312), No. 43 UNLV (15th, 314) and No. 35 Washington (16th, 315).

Individually, two Ducks stood in the top 25 overall – senior Kate Hildahl and junior Kendra Little – who were tied for 22nd place with four-over scores of 75.

Hildahl led UO for the second time this season and 11th time in her career, while Little shared similar honors for the 10th and 37th times this season and career-wise, respectively.

Little carded three birdies (on the par-5 #2, #11 and 18), had 10 par scores (#1, 4-5, 7-8, 10, 13-14, 16-17), four bogeys (#3, 6, 9, 15) and one triple bogey (#12). Hildahl also turned in a birdie on the par-4 third hole, had 13 pars (#2, #4-9, #11-12, 14, 16-18), three bogeys (#1, #13, #15) and one double-bogey (#10).

Oregon’s other scorers included sophomore Ashley Edwards (47th-t, 78) and senior Felicia Eastick (74th-t, 81); freshman Cheyenne Hickle (85th-t, 85) rounded out the Ducks’ official team entries; and junior Erica Omlid (74th-t, 81) played as an individual.

Monday was originally scheduled to feature two rounds, but heavy rain delays caused tournament officials to cancel one of the rounds.

Scores were obviously affected by the weather as only five players shot scores of par or better – Pepperdine’s Taylore Karle (first, 68), Duke’s Alison Whitaker (second, 69), Oklahoma State’s Caroline Hedwall (70) and Arizona State’s Carlota Ciganda (fourth-tie, 71) and Stanford’s Sally Watson (fourth-tie, 71).

Looking ahead, the second and final round Tuesday morning is set for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Mountain Time / 7 a.m. Pacific Time.
