EUGENE - Senior centerfielder Neena Bryant's second homer of the season - a two-run shot in the fourth inning - gave the University of Oregon softball team (18-5) a 3-1 win over Boise State (4-14) Sunday afternoon and a home-opening, four-game weekend sweep of the Broncos and the North Dakota Fighting Sioux (3-13).

Sophomore Samantha Skillingstad (5-3) worked the first five innings, struck out seven, walked none, and her only run allowed was earned. Freshman Jessica Moore pitched the last two innings, struck out four, and allowed no hits or runs for her second save of the season.

UO tied the game in the bottom of the second inning after junior first baseman Monique Fuiava led off with a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball, and later scored on an RBI single to right center field by junior catcher Ashley Kivett.

Fuiava also boosted the defense with a leaping catch of a line drive down the first base line to open the top of the seventh inning.

Altogether in the game, four Ducks hit safely - Bryant (1-for-3, 2 RBI), Ashley Kivett (1-for-3, 1 RBI) and freshmen Samantha Pappas (1-for-3) and Kaylan Howard (1-for-2, 1 walk).

For BSU, starter Allie Crump (3-9) struck out four, walked two and two of her three runs allowed were earned. Three Bronco batters hit safely - Kathy Cox (1-for-3), Christin Capobianco (1-for-3) and Crump (1-for-3, 1 RBI).

BSU scored its lone run in the top of the second inning. Cox opened the inning by nearly hitting her sixth homer of the season, however, the drive caromed off the top of the right field fence for a double. After a fly-out and strikeout, she scored on a single to left field by Crump.

Earlier Sunday morning, UO topped North Dakota, 12-0, in five innings as senior Carlyn Re ripped her third homer of the weekend, and sophomore Kelsey Chambers, Howard and Pappas also belted roundtrippers. Junior Brittany Rumfelt (4-0) earned the win and struck out eight and walked none in 3.2 innings, and sophomore Mikayla Endicott pitched the final 1.1 innings and struck out three, walked one and allowed no runs.

The day before in its home openers against the same teams, UO beat Boise State, 9-0, and UND, 7-1, Saturday.

Overall for the four-game weekend stretch, Re led the offense (6-for-8, 3 home runs, 5 RBI, 1.875 slugging), and six other starters topped .300 - freshman Allie Burger (.571, 4-for-7, 1 walk), Howard (.556, 5-for-9, 2 home runs, 2 RBI), Kelsey Chambers (.455, 5-for-11, 2 home runs, 7 RBI), Pappas (.455, 5-for-11, 1 double, 1 homer, 2 RBI), Ashley Kivett (.429, 3-for-7, 1 double, 2 RBI) and Fuiava (.300, 3-for-10, 1 home run, 3 RBI).

Looking ahead, the Ducks will focus on final exams this week, then play three, 3 p.m. doubleheaders next week at PSU (Tuesday, March 23) and at home vs. Seattle (Thursday, March 25) and Idaho State (Friday, March 26).
