EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women's tennis team scored its first Pac-10 win of the 2010 season with a 4-3 victory over visiting Washington State on Saturday afternoon inside the Student Tennis Center. Oregon improves to 7-13 (1-5 Pac-10) with the win while the Cougars fall to 9-11 (1-4 Pac-10) with the loss.

The Ducks started strong, winning their first doubles point in Pac-10 play this season 2-1. Pavlina Smatova and Trudie du Toit won 8-5 at No. 1 and Molly McDevitt and Julia Metzger breezed to a 8-0 win at No. 3. They are 3-0 after being paired up three matches ago vs. Montana State.

It got tight in singles play, after Washington State won three of the first five matches to even the dual up at 3-3.

It all came down to No. 2 singles, where Pavlina Smatova and WSU's No. 91 ranked Liudmila Vasilieva were playing to a third set. After winning the first set and dropping the second, Smatova came out on a rampage in the third set by winning the first five games.

Up 5-0 with the match on the line, Smatova let Vasilieva get one game before putting away her opponent on a break point for the 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win and the Oregon victory.
