The Oregon stunts and gymnastics team is heading to the NCA National Championships on Thursday and Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla. In their first season as a program under head coach Felecia Mulkey, the Ducks have won six of eight competitions.

The NCA (National Cheerleaders Association) National Championships are a multi-divisional competitive cheerleading competition that takes place over the course of nine days at the outdoor Daytona Beach Bandshell. Oregon is competing in the All-Girl IA Division along with Michigan State, Penn State, NC State, South Carolina, Maryland, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Georgia, Illinois and defending national champion Louisville. Maryland won three-straight titles before being upset by the Cardinals in 2009.

Oregon will compete at 9:10 a.m. on Thursday in the preliminary round before the final competition is held at 5:50 p.m. on Friday. FOX SPORTS NET will air the finals on
the weekend of April 24-25 between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Mulkey and the Ducks have a special surprise for the fans and judges at the competition, as they will be unveiling a new pyramid that no all-girl team has ever attempted.

Teams qualified for the All-Girl IA division by sending in a video tape from one of their competitions this season. NCA officials watched the tapes and selected the best teams in the country to compete. Some teams also qualified by winning other NCA competitions this year.

The Ducks will only be performing their traditional team routine only, as this is not a National Competitive Stunts and Tumbling Association formatted event, as were the Ducks’ two home meets this season. The last time the Ducks competed against this size and quality of a field, they placed third at the Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta, Ga.

Assistant coach Angela Ucci will be checking in with GoDucks.com while in Daytona Beach the next four days with blogs posts and updates from the road. Be sure to check back frequently.
