WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon junior Monique Fuiava was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week, and Washington senior Danielle Lawrie was named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for April 5-11, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

UO's fourth recipient of Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season,  Fuiava helped fuel a 3-0 sweep of No. 13 California over the weekend, its first-ever multi-game season sweep of Cal since their first ‘series’ in 1980, and their second series edge since 1995 (with the other coming in 2-1 fashion in 2007).

In the ninth inning of UO’s 7-6 and 8-6 wins Friday and Sunday, Fuiava smacked a two-run double and two-run homer, respectively, for her team-leading seventh and eighth game-winning RBI’s of the season.

In the opener, she connected on a career high and team season high four hits, and had two more in the finale. Among the seven Ducks who started all three games, she hit .500 - the only above .300 - and also paced the squad in hits (6), doubles (1), slugging (.833) and on-base percentage (.500), and ranked second in homers (1-tied).

Glancing at stats from league play the first two weeks, she also paces the team in hitting (.500), hits (12), doubles (2-tied), and ranks second in walks (3-tied), and third in homers (1-tied) and slugging (.708).

On the season she stands second on the club in slugging (.563) and walks (9), third in hits (37), fourth in batting (.359), homers (4) and RBIs (19), and fifth in on-base percentage. Her 18 career homers are now only four shy of the 10th-best mark in school history (22).

UW’s Lawrie was dominant in the circle in a sweep of No. 2 Arizona, and won her third Pitcher of the Week honor this season and 14th career-wise.

Earlier this season for the Ducks, freshman outfielders Allie Burger and Samantha Pappas and freshman pitcher Jessica Moore received similar honors, and a list of all-time honorees follows at the bottom.

Tied atop the Pac-10 Conference this week, the No. 21 Ducks (29-6, 5-1) and No. 1 Huskies (33-3, 5-1) meet at Howe Field in Eugene for single games Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
