STANFORD, Calif. - For the second straight evening, the No. 15 Stanford softball team topped No. 20 Oregon Friday at Smith Family Stadium behind a complete game by sophomore Ashley Chinn.

Stanford (35-17, 7-13) followed Oregon's lead from the night before and scored four runs in the first inning, thanks to a three walks and a single to start the game. The remaining three runs came across on a failed pickoff attempt and a two-run double.

UO (33-18, 8-12) scored its lone run in the fourth inning when senior centerfielder Neena Bryant led off with a double down the left field line - her ninth of the season and one shy of junior first baseman Monique Fuiava (10) who ranked 10th in the league this week.

Bryant advanced to third base on an infield ground-out, then scored on sophomore shortstop Kelsey Chambers’ second sacrifice fly of the season.

In the fifth, Stanford scored its final run after the opening batter walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ground-out to first base, then scored on a wild pitch.

Two other Ducks hit safely on the evening.

Fuiava led off the fifth with a single through the left side, but senior pinch-runner Hannah Barril was stranded after a fly-out, fielder’s choice and popped-up bunt.

With two outs in the sixth, freshman right field Samantha Pappas laced UO’s other hit, a single up the middle for her team-leading 60th of the season, but a fly-out ended the inning. The Las Flores, Calif., native is now only six hits shy of the 10th-best mark in school history (66).

On the mound for UO, sophomore starter Samantha Skillingstad (11-6) pitched the first five innings, struck out three, walked six, allowed six hits, and all five of her runs allowed were earned.

Freshman Jessica Moore pitched the final inning, allowed one hit and no runs, and logged no strikeouts or walks.

Their counterpart Chinn (10-8), struck out four, walked none, gave up three hits, and her run allowed was earned.

At the plate for the Cardinal, five batters hit safely, and two had multiple hits - Alissa Haber (2-for-4, walk) and Rosey Neill (2-for-3, 2 RBI).

The two teams meet again in their regular season finales Saturday at 1 p.m., and live stats are available at the website.

On Sunday, the Ducks will tune into the 64-team NCAA tournament field announcement on ESPN-U at 7 p.m. Pacific Time in anticipation of their 12th postseason bid in school history. The show will be replayed an hour later on ESPNews at 8 p.m.
