From The Dugout: At The Finish Line

West Coast League
Junior catcher Mitch Karraker will begin play in the West Coast League Championship Series beginning on Saturday. Karraker and the Bend Elks swept the Corvallis Knights in the West Division Series to reach the series final, and will now take on the defending champion Wenatchee AppleSox. Game one of the championship series is set for Saturday in Bend, while game two will be played on Monday in Wenatchee. If necessary, game three will be played in Wenatchee on Tuesday.

Team USA
The Collegiate National Team took home silver at the FISU World University Baseball Championships in Tokyo, Japan last Saturday. Alfredo Despaigne hit two home runs, including a walk-off, three-run home run in the 10th inning, to give Cuba a 4-3 win over USA in the gold-medal game.

The Collegiate National Team finished its summer with a record of 16-3. Sophomore left-hander Tyler Anderson was 1-0 on the mound in three appearances. He pitched a total of 16 shutout innings, allowing just six hits and striking out 14. Anderson, who was the only pitcher on the roster with a 0.00 ERA, was part of two combined shutouts.

In five appearances, sophomore right-hander Scott McGough finished his summer with Team USA with a 1-1 record and 0.82 ERA. In 11 innings on the mound, McGough allowed just oone earned run on four hits while fanning 13.

Cape Cod League
KC Serna and Christian Jones finished their season with the Falmouth Commodores last Saturday after Falmouth was swept by the Cotuit Kettleers in the playoffs.

The team finished up 21-22-1 in second place of the Western Division, and Jones was named Falmouth’s Pitcher of the Year.

Northwoods League
Madison Boer and the La Crosse Loggers won their fourth consecutive game on Thursday night as they defeated the visiting Madison Mallards, 9-5, in front of 3,479 fans at Copeland Park. The Loggers are currently in third place of the South Division and .5 game back of second as they push for a playoff spot. Boer, who left Thursday to return to Eugene for summer school, finished his time with the Loggers with a 4-1 record, five saves and a 0.89 ERA.

The Rochester Honkers (35-27) are currently second in the North Division standings as the season winds down.  Ryan Hambright continues to lead the Honkers batting .362 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs. Andrew Mendenhall has played in 41 games and is batting .218 with 12 RBIs and six doubles.
