Full Court Press: Coach Kai Checks In

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Hello Duck Fans,

Wow, it has been some time since we last touched based.  Our staff has been working hard on the recruiting trail, looking for some fast break players.  We also took a little time off to kick up our feet and sit in the sun, and now we are back and ready to get going.

This week, we have been spending a lot of time working on the calendar for the next four months and everything that needs to be planned within that time span.  Lucky for us, we have Janell who is all over it.  Dan and Illya started working on our returners “2010-11 Basketball Folders.”  Keila and I have been working on the recruiting side of things, preparing for some super fun-filled visits!

I’ve also been helping with the Matthew Knight Arena.  I’ve been pouring cement, setting the electrical wiring… really, it’s been great. Okay, so I haven’t been doing all that, but I have been fortunate enough to be on site to see how things are going, to cheer on the workers and give moral support.  Now that the walls are up, the tiles are being placed, the carpet is in…we have a REALLY good feeling for what is what and what is where. It’s truly spectacular!

Yesterday the athletic department had a ceremony and celebration after they installed two interlocking stainless steel O’s.  The O’s will support our scoreboard that will include four HD screens!  I was told that there is only ONE scoreboard in the country with better picture quality.  Our scoreboard will also be one of the largest hung scoreboards in a college arena.  Like I have been saying all along…with the Ducks, it’s ALL OUT!!  We are not messing around!

After the ceremony of raising the O’s, members of the athletic department, members of Hoffman Construction and some of our architects and interior designers all went out to PF Chang's for dinner to celebrate.  And it didn’t end there…then we all went BOWLING!!  Hahaha, I can’t remember the last time that I bowled…which means, I WAS AWFUL!  Since it was all meant to be fun and light, I tried not to get overly competitive.  I actually ended the night on two strikes!  LUCKY!

Fourteen days and counting until your women’s basketball players are back in Eugene!  I know, I’m excited!!
