Lanie Thompson: Recapping the Dellinger Meet

Hey Duck Fans!
It's been a little while since I last wrote, but I wanted to wait until after the Bill Dellinger Invitational to finish my next blog. First of all, thank you so much for anyone who came out and watched the races. It was a beautiful fall day and we couldn't have had any better weather for a cross country race. Both the men and the women came out with the win, having some solid performances all around. It was great to have both Luke and Matt and Alex and Jordan come across the line together in first and second place. I think it shows the closeness of both teams and the willingness to not only work together, but finish together. On the women's side, we had a great pack finish together and we couldn't be more excited for the rest of the season to unfold.
As far as the race itself, we had certain strategies and goals going into the race that I think we all followed through with. We've been pretty successful at working together in practice and it definitely pays off in the races. Knowing that there is another Oregon uniform in close distance helps motivate us to work harder. We know that every person we pass or time gap we close helps the overall team score, and the team is of course, our number one priority in a race.
Now we have a solid two weeks that we can use for some good training while also starting to focus on our goals as a team as we approach the championship season. Once again, thank you to those who were able to make it out to the races. Competing at home is great for any sport and any team. You always have that extra support from family, friends, and fans that isn't always as present in away competitions. But I have to say, competing at home for the Ducks is truly like no other college team. We absolutely love the fan-based community we have here in Eugene and we can't help but to feel fantastic in front of fans who are cheering for us no matter what. So from all those who ran this weekend, thank you for helping us come out with the win!
Thanks for checking out the blog and like always, Go Ducks!
