Walker's Pace: Pepsi Primer, Finalized Schedule
Friday, April 8, 2011
The meet schedule for tomorrow's Pepsi Team Invitational has been finalized. Here's a link.
The biggest change to note is that the women's steeplechase, with national leader Claire Michel of Oregon, has been moved from the end of the meet to 12:20 p.m. That also bumped the women's 5,000 meters (Bronwyn Crossman) to 11:40 a.m. and the men's 5,000 meters (Matthew Centrowitz, Danny Mercado, Nebraska's David Adams, Washington's Max O'Donoghue-McDonald) to noon.
The week leading up to the Pepsi meet has produced some excellent primers from Oregon's well-versed track and field beat writers. Before you head to Saturday's Pepsi Team Invitational, be sure to check these out:
Here's a men's team preview, a women's team preview and introduction to Oregon's newcomers from Curtis Anderson of the Register-Guard. Anderson also blogs on the most recent "Tuesdays in Track Town."
Ken Goe of the Oregonian writes about an ambitious Jordan Hasay as the team prepares for the Pepsi meet. He also adds posts about sixth-year (yes, sixth-year) senior Alex Wolff, A.J. Acosta's lofty goals, the demise of scoring meets during the regular season, a recap of the most recent "Tuesdays in Track Town", and making track a more television-friendly sport.
And the student newpaper, The Daily Emerald (Robert Husseman), writes about an energized Bowerman's Pack for the Pepsi meet.
