Lisa Peterson, who has accumulated more than 17 years of experience as an administrator of collegiate athletics at three different major Division I institutions, has been named senior associate athletic director at the University of Oregon, according to the Ducks’ Director of Athletics Rob Mullens.

Peterson (10/27/72), who earned an undergraduate degree in business management from St. John’s University in 1994 before adding a Master of Business Administration in computer information systems from the New York school in 1998, fills the vacancy created when Renee Baumgartner assumed a position at Syracuse University this summer.

Following a national search, she is expected to begin her appointment next week.

The former senior associate athletic director for internal operations and senior woman administrator at the University of Kentucky will oversee a broad range of sports programs at Oregon, including women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, lacrosse as well as acrobatics and tumbling, in addition to managing the Ducks’ athletic medicine and computer information technology departments.

Peterson also will direct the department’s championship competitions in addition to being heavily involved as the University’s liaison with the Pac-12 Conference and NCAA.

She has developed a proficiency for overseeing athletic department’s information systems technology and personnel management since her arrival at Kentucky, as well as the implementation of Title IX and equity in athletics education.

”I am incredibly excited for this new opportunity at the University of Oregon and becoming a part of the Duck family,” Peterson said. “Oregon is a national leader in an innovative conference and I look forward to working with the staff, coaches, student-athletes and in the community.  The passion and energy surrounding the University of Oregon is evident across the nation and I hope to aid the tremendous leadership team in achieving even bigger things.”

As Kentucky’s senior associate AD, she was responsible for overseeing women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics as well as men’s and women’s cross country and track & field. She also served as the department’s liaison with the University’s executive vice president’s office, its human resources operation as well as the school’s legal counsel.

An active member of the Collegiate Athletic Business Managers Association (CABMA), Peterson served on the NCAA Track & Field Committee from 2005-07, was a member of the University’s planning committee for proposed capital projects that included $14 million in renovations for the Wildcats’ track & field facility, in addition to coordinating post-season tournament bid proposals for Southeastern Conference and NCAA championships.

She began her tenure of almost nine years at Kentucky as an assistant athletic director for business in January 2003 following five years at the University of Maryland (1997-2002).

While in Lexington, Ky., the Wagner, S.D., native monitored a $50 million annual budget for the 22-sport athletic department in addition to working in conjunction with the ticket and compliance offices, team travel, assisting with SEC and NCAA tournament appearances and serving as a liaison for the school’s NCAA Certification process. She was elevated to associate athletic director for finance and senior woman administrator in 2006 before assuming the responsibilities as senior associate athletic director for internal operations in September of 2010.

"We are excited to add an energetic, experienced professional to our team,” Mullens said. “Lisa's passion for the role of intercollegiate athletics has afforded her the opportunity to play a key part in building championship pro-grams at the highest level."

Peterson began her professional career as an intern to the athletic business manager at St. John’s in the spring of 1993 before becoming the assistant athletic business manager at the University of Miami in September of 1995.
