SALT LAKE CITY – Saturday's second game between the No. 15 University of Oregon and Utah softball teams was delayed in the third inning due to rain and unsafe playing conditions, and will resume Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. PT.
The Ducks (27-9, 6-5 Pac-12) own a 3-2 lead with one out in the top of the third. UO scored first in the second inning thanks to back-to-back solo home runs by senior Christie Nieto and sophomore Alexa Peterson. UO then strung together three singles to score its third run.
When action resumes Sunday, Oregon’s Christie Nieto will resume her at-bat with an 1-0 count against Ute senior right-hander Generra Nielson.
The Utes (23-16, 0-10 Pac-12) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning on an errant throw by the shortstop with runners on first and third base.
Utah's Amu got the start in the circle and went 2.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits to go with three strikeouts and one walk.
After Sunday's first game, the third and final game of the series will follow approximately 30 minutes. A live audio broadcast and live stats for games will be available at www.UtahUtes.com.
