Stanford, Calif. - The No. 2 Stanford Cardinal rebounded their way to a 2-1 battle against the Oregon Ducks in a Pac-12 match at Cagan Stadium.
Oregon played a close game with Stanford for the entirety of the match on Sunday, but the Ducks' opponents capitalized on two opportunities that put the game away. The Cardinal scored on a pair of rebounds, the first coming from Haley Rosen in the 38thminute, the second coming from Alex Doll in the 58th minute. The Cardinal controlled the corners, out dualing the Ducks 12-1.
The Ducks tied the Cardinal 1-1 with a free kick from 25 yards by senior midfielder Scout Libke in the final 30 seconds of the first half, her 2nd goal of the season.
“We played very, very well today,” said Oregon head coach Tara Erickson. “ Our backline and midfield did a terrific job limiting a very talented Cardinal team. We bounced back very strong from the loss on Friday to California and we look to take the positives from today’s game as we prepare for the Los Angeles schools [referring to the Ducks game on Oct. 5 against UCLA and Oct. 7 against USC] at home next week.”
With the win today the Cardinal remains undefeated in Pac-12 play, improving to 3-0-0 within the conference and moving to an impressive 9-1-1 on the season.
The Ducks fought extremely hard, just fell a bit short of pulling off the upset. With this loss the Ducks move to 0-2-1 against Pac-12 opponents, 5-5-2 overall on the season. The Ducks look to bounce back back against UCLA and USC next weekend at Pape Field.
