Ducks Struggle in Second day of USAFA Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Ducks women’s tennis team competed in the second day of the United States Air Force Academy Invitational on Saturday. Unfortunately, they were unable to advance any farther in their brackets as they were defeated by several good teams.

In singles, senior Julia Metzger lost to Eastern Michigan’s Diana Davitaia 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 and will face Colorado’s Janssens in the consolation bracket tomorrow. Sophomore Nicole Long fell to Texas Tech’s Nikki Sanders 6-2, 6-0 and will go up against Colorado State’s Schultz tomorrow in the consolation round. Junior Rabea Stueckemann was defeated by Oregon State’s Maria Alvarez 4-6, 4-1, ret. and will face CU’s Watrous in consolation.

In doubles, Long and freshman Brooke Hughes lost to Wyoming’s Nemcova and Kovacs 8-5. Metzger and Pascale Neubert took down Arizona’s Oldham and Johnson 9-8. After a bye in the consolation, Stueckemann and Lena Macomson beat CU’s Sperry and Wegleitner 8-6 to finish in 13th.

Singles play will resume tomorrow morning in Colorado Springs. Check back on for results at the end of the day.
