EUGENE – This weekend, the University of Oregon softball team kicks off another exciting fall slate with an exhibition doubleheader at Oregon State, Saturday, October 13 at noon.

In their third week of fall practice, the Ducks continue their pursuit for a Women’s College World Series return, and look ahead to two more home doubleheaders at home at the end of the month.

In two weeks at Howe Field, UO showcases its deepest team ever in a doubleheader vs. Corban College on Saturday, October 27 at 10 a.m. The next day, Oregon then hosts Portland State University on Sun., Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.

Both Duck fall home dates offer free admission to fans.

Oregon comes off arguably its greatest season ever in 2012 after it staked a 45-18 overall record and 13-9 mark in the Pac-12 - the nation’s top softball league.

Among other team highlights, UO capped the campaign ranked fifth in both national polls; placed third in the Pac-12 for the second straight season; and scored its second-most wins ever in school history en route to its second Women’s College World Series trip.

This season’s 21-person roster is one of its most decorated and features two All-Americans – senior outfielder Samantha Pappas and senior pitcher Jessica Moore.

Last May, the duo were tabbed to All-Region Teams with senior second baseman Kaylan Howard, and the junior trio of catcher Alexa Peterson, first baseman Kailee Cuico and infielder Courtney Ceo.

Five of those players were also All-Pac-12 honorees with utility player Christie Nieto and shortstop Kelsey Chambers, while center fielder Janie Takeda was an All-Pac-12 Freshman Team choice.

The future shines even brighter for fourth-year head coach Mike White who welcomes an impressive newcomer class that featured four players on the Top 100 list – third-most nationally.

That quartet included utility player Koral Costa (San Pedro, Calif.), pitcher Cheridan Hawkins (Anderson, Calif.), catcher Janelle Lindvall (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) and infielder Danica Mercado (Temecula, Calif.).

UO’s other three heralded additions include infielders Stevie Jo Knapp (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Karine Shaver (Waipahu, Hawai’i) and outfielder Andrinae White (Fairfield, Calif.).

The six-member newcomer class will help ease the loss of three senior starters from 2012 – Kelsey and Lindsey Chambers and utility player Christie Nieto.

Duck fans can also look for to other notable additions in the dugout this fall. Chelsea Spencer, a former All-American infielder at Cal, and Matt Lisle round out one of the nation's deepest coaching staffs as first-year coaches.
