EUGENE, Ore.--The Oregon Ducks women’s soccer team looks to end their season on a high note as they welcome the Oregon State Beavers to Pape’ Field on Friday at 4:00 p.m. for this year’s Civil War. The Ducks head into the match 7-10-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play. Oregon is 6-3-1 at home this season in their first year at the new facilities.
Oregon State is 11-5-3 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play. Head coach Linus Rhode is in his fifth year leading the Beavers and has accumulated a record of 49-28-7 throughout his time in Corvallis. Rhode has the most wins by a Beavers head coach to start his career and has led his team to three consecutive trips to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
Friday afternoon is also senior day for the Ducks as they honor seven seniors who are playing their last game at Oregon. Scout Libke, Lauren Thompson, Nicole Bakke, Casey Wilhelm, Kelsey Hones, Mo Fitzgerald and Maddy Mercier will be recognized.
POWERS AND PARR HONORED
One of the nation’s most highly respected and followed soccer websites, TopDrawerSoccer.com, has released their Midseason Freshman Top 100 List, and it features two Oregon Ducks.
Elk Grove, Calif. native Mariah Powers came in at number 52 on the list. The defender has played in every game so far this season and has scored one goal and one assist. Her lone goal came against Gonzaga on Sept. 16th when she passed the ball to herself around a defender before firing a shot into the back of the net.
Forward Kristen Parr is the only other Duck on the list as she comes in at number 74. The Bend, Ore. native has also played in every game but one so far and is the Ducks’ leading goal-scorer so far this season with seven goals.
PAPE’ FIELD FIRSTS
Freshman forward Kristen Parr now holds the honor of scoring the first and second goals in the history of the new Pape’ Field. It didn’t take long to put a point up on the scoreboard, as Parr put the ball in the back of the net in the fourth minute of action off of assists by sophomore Bri Pugh and fellow freshman Mariah Powers. Freshman Maryn Beutler assisted Parr on the second goal in the 60th minute. Goalkeeper Abby Steele recorded all five of her saves in the first period.
The first crowd at the facility was recorded at 758 people under sunny skies and perfect 66 degree weather. The current record is now 944 people at the UCLA game on Oct. 5th.
DUCKS HAVE DEPTH
A strong class of newcomers, including forward Kristen Parr who has scored six of Oregon’s goals thus far, has helped boost the team’s depth this season. “The biggest strength for us right now is strength in numbers. Before, on average I would play just under fifteen players a game and I think this year’s average is going to far exceed that because of the depth we have,” said head coach Tara Erickson.
Six players have now scored goals for the Ducks, including four freshmen. Freshman goalkeeper Dana Connors started her first collegiate match against Seattle U after starter Abby Steele was given a red card in the previous match. Connors recorded her first win as well as three saves.
CAREER RECORD LIST WATCH
Senior midfielder Scout Libke is now in sole possession of ninth place on the all time goals list as her eleven career goals now surpass Kristi Morris’ total of 10 from 1996-99.
Libke is also currently eighth place on Oregon’s all time points list with 31 points off of 11 goals and nine assists throughout her illustrious career.
