All-American (indoor 5,000 meters) returns to Eugene with one season of indoor eligibility remaining. Was a 5,000-meter NCAA Championships qualifier both indoors and outdoors in 2009 and also competed in his first USA Track & Field Championships. Has seen consistent improvement during his Oregon career. Two-time Pac-10 scorer. Six-time Pac-10 All-Academic selection in track and cross country combined.
2009-10: An NCAA provisional qualifier at 3,000 meters his final quarter of eligibility in Eugene. Ran a personal-best 7:58.20 3,000 meters to finish third at the Texas A&M Challenge on Jan. 30 and post a PR and an NCAA provisional time. Only 5,000 meter race of the season was 14:23.18 at the Feb. 12 Husky Classic. 2008-09: All-American (indoor 5,000 meters) set personal bests in the 5,000 meters (indoors and outdoors), the 3,000 meters (indoors) and the mile. Ran a personal-best 13:54.20 in the 5,000 meters at the Husky Classic to qualify for his first NCAA Indoor Championships, where he earned his first career All-America award with a 14th place finish (14:24.18). Also set a season-best in the 3,000 meters during the indoor season, running 7:59.27 at the MPSF Championships. Both indoor bests are just off the UO career top five. Outdoors, qualified for his first NCAA Championships. Opened with a personal-best run in the 5,000 meters (13:49.40) at the Stanford Invitational. Also competed in the 5,000 at the NCAA and Pac-10 championships. Qualified for the USA Track & Field Championships at that distance (19th, 14:15.63). Set a personal best in the mile (4:03.90) at the Oregon Relays. Won the 1,500 meters at the Oregon Preview (3:48.17). In the fall, finished as Oregon’s No. 6 runner and was 22nd overall in 24:51.47 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational to help the Ducks earn a close team victory. 2007-08: An NCAA Regional qualifier in the 5,000 meters, and a Pac-10 scorer in that event as well. Placed eighth in the 5,000 (14:30.62) at the Pac-10 Championships to earn a point for the two-time champion Ducks. Capped season with a 12th-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA West Regional (14:30.27). Set a seasonal best in the 5,000 meters by running 13:58.22 at the UW Indoor Invite. Also set personal mark in the mile, clocking 4:08.12 at the UW Indoor Preview. In cross country, was one of six Ducks who placed top-14 in the Pac-10 Championships (11th) and ranked third for the Pac-10 champion squad. Two weeks later, finished top-20 overall in the West Regional (16th), scoring for the team as the Ducks repeated as NCAA West Region champions. Capped season with NCAA debut for the NCAA Champions. USTFCCCA All-Academic first team. Pac-10 all-academic first team selection in both track and cross country. ESPN the Magazine All-Academic District 8 second team. 2006-07: Regional scorer in the 5,000 meters and a Pac-10 scorer in the 10,000 meters. NCAA provisional qualifier in the indoor 3,000 meters. Placed sixth in his 10,000 meters event debut in the Pac-10 Championships (29:23.84) and helped Oregon win third league team title in five years. Came back two weeks later to score in West Regional debut, then two weeks later ran 1,500-meter personal best in Prefontaine Classic ‘B Section’ (3:43.82). In April, claimed UO’s first individual victory in the Penn Relays 5,000 meters (13:57.64). Indoors, ran a pair of bests in the 3,000 meters, including at the Mountain Pacific Championships. 2005-06: In indoor track and field, competed once for UO indoors in mile before receiving a medical redshirt. Redshirted the outdoor season. In fall, posted highest cross country finish on team in season finale, the West Regional (38th). Season Bests: Indoors - Mile - 4:15.08, UW Invitational, Seattle, Wash. (1/27/06).
2004-05: USA Junior Championships Competitor in the 5,000 meters. Enrolled for the 2005 spring term. Outdoors, ran five races in span of 2 1/2 months, and clocked his season bests in his debuts in the 3,000 meters, steeplechase and 5,000 meters. Capped year with appearance in USA Junior Championships (5,000 meters, 12th, 14:51.77). Season Bests: Outdoors - 3,000 Meters - 8:18.50, Pepsi Team Invitational (4/9/05); 5,000 Meters - 14:30.18, Cardinal Invitational (5/1/05).
Prep: In spring of 2004, competed in the 3,000 meters in the Oregon 4A state track meet as senior (third, 8:30.11), junior (sixth, 8:33.81) and sophomore (14th, 9:09.41). In regular season state 3,000-meter rankings, ranked top-six as senior (third, 8:30.11) and junior (sixth, 8:33.81). Competed in state cross country finale all four seasons, and took sixth as senior (15:33) and 14th as junior (16:06). Ran for state cross country champion Central Catholic High School as a senior, and for Grant High School his first three seasons as squad took second (2002), sixth (‘01) and 13th (‘00).
