Free safety Matthew Harper has been named the Pac-10 defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Oregon’s 24-17 victory over USC on Saturday. It is the second Pac-10 defensive Player of the Week award for the Ducks this season.

The senior out of Union City, Calif. had two red-zone interceptions of USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, including one with 11 seconds remaining to secure the Oregon victory. He also added five tackles and one pass breakup.

On the year Harper has three interceptions, which he has returned for a total of 116 yards, and is third on the team in tackles, with 71, including two sacks.

This is Harper’s second season at Oregon, as he played for two years at the City College of San Francisco before transferring to Eugene.

The last time the Ducks had two Pac-10 defensive Player of the Week awards in one season was in 2005, when current Duck A.J. Tuitele won the award, along with former Ducks Anthony Trucks and Haloti Ngata.

Oregon hosts undefeated Arizona State this Saturday, November 3rd at 3:45 p.m. Both teams are ranked in the top 5 nationally.
